I have been listening to a ton of negative commentary in the media, by acquaintances, and even political leaders lately on the subject of immigration. Things like building a fence on the southern borders, to “rounding” up people we deem not worthy of being here in America. This essay will be my take on immigration and how I feel it affects America, so I hope you enjoy and maybe are a little more enlightened after reading.
Before I get into my babbling, I would like to remind anyone reading this of two very important things that describe the greatest Republic that was ever created. The first is on the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and opportunity that is on display for the world to see and envy. Lady Liberty proudly declares “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”. The second thing I would like to call to your attention, a few words written on the greatest document ever conceived. I’m not going to tell you the name of document these words are on. If you don’t know, either you are part of the problem or you should take the time to read it. Those words are “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The reason I mention these to writings is to call attention to the fact this Republic is bigger than one person’s opinion. No one person or segment of society supersedes the values and beliefs our Fore Fathers left for us to protect. This Republic is built and designed for those seeking a better life. We should all be thankful for our founders for taking time out of their busy day to die for us and all those who are looking for freedom. We should not waste our time trying to continuously to figure out ways to go against what our Republic stands for.
Secondly, if we were to believe science fiction, every alien that might arrive here would take from us or do us harm in some way. It’s been my experience that not one immigrant I have ever met wanted to change anything. The truth is, they want to be part of this Great Republic. They embrace the meaning of freedom and tolerance and are willing do anything to protect it. Truthfully, most immigrants would defend this great Republic and what she stands for.
So… here we go. It’s been my experience the vast majority of immigrants are extremely hard working people who came to this country to have the opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their children. Did you notice what I wrote there? OUR COUNTRY WAS BUILT AND DESIGNED ON THE SINGULAR IDEA OF OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER. That idea is absolutely a founding principle of our great Republic. Our fore fathers envisioned a place where a person could come and be free to give it their best shot at a better life.
If I were to take this one step further, which I am going to, because I’m tired and over all the silly opinions I hear on a daily basis. Let’s assume for one minute that the people who harvest the crops manually in the farming trade were unionized or at the very least paid minimum wage. Do you think the cucumber or tomato you love to eat so much of would be a dollar in the grocery store? It wouldn’t, they would cost $25 a piece if you were lucky. Does anyone understand what I’m writing here?
In case you missed where that was going, the immigrants have SAVED this country; they aren’t in any way detrimental to this country. Why you ask? Because if we look at just the farming community, not the other business out there that take advantage of immigrants, and did the math, you would quickly realize there is no way the majority of food and services would be remotely affordable. By taking advantage of the very people here to make a better life, we have been able to keep a lot of the food in our country extremely cheap.
I’ve heard the argument about free health care and not paying taxes. Here is my answer, WHO CARES? Most of the immigrants are paying with their very life to keep our country going, a few dollars in taxes don’t matter one bit. Nobody seems to care that all of the billionaires and billion dollar corporations don’t pay taxes, so why does anyone care so much that a poor person working for pennies doesn’t? Oh, the free health care argument, we have multiple generations of people that have never worked an honest day in their life and we give them free health care, again why would you deny to someone who is out there doing their best? Before I forget, if you are pissed they can get free health care and you can’t, that’s not their fault, you need to take that argument up with the government and BTW is a good question to ask.
Just consider how much money you save per cucumber and tomato that is subsidized by immigration and someone else working for pennies and maybe you should take the time to thank them, they are here doing a great service to our country and I personally appreciate it.
THE Deviant View on Immigration
Everyone has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. For those of us who have been fortunate enough to be born in a country that has opportunity, we should not be so quick to judge others and their struggles to enhance their lives. If you were to look at any college campus today or most corporations you would find a staggering number of immigrants. It’s an integral part of the culture of a great country.
Immigration is not without fault, however, that is for the government to sort out. It is not the fault of the immigrant who is searching out a better life.
